Name: Torsten S.
Position: Lenses and lasers
ic! berliner since: 2011
Where did you grow up? When and why did you move to Berlin?
At the tender age of five my parents decided to move. I was ripped from an idyllic small town in Saxony and completely assimilated into a strange new species. Resistance was futile!
What’s at the top of your bucket list? (things you want to have done before you kick the bucket).
I keep swaying between saving the world and building a spaceship.
What is your guilty pleasure?
My hobby is building models and model trains, so I guess that would be it. I find a lot of joy in it - and spend far too much money on it. That’s kind of why I’m here at ic! berlin: so I have time and money to pursue my hobby J
What would you like to learn? (eg. to play the saxophone, to tap dance, Japanese…)
I would like to learn a second language, perhaps Spanish. I’m also amazed by people who have mastered a musical instrument; maybe I would try guitar or saxophone… in my next life for sure!
What was the first CD, cassette or record that you bought?
With my very first pay check I bought the 1985 LP “Records” by Foreigner.
What would you want your last meal to be?
My grandmother’s Saxon quark-dumplings with homemade applesauce. Of course with apples from her own garden!
What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Before you judge others, think about where they are coming from, their way of life, their way of thinking, their culture, their life! We should all interact with each other this way. Anything else just leads to ignorance and intolerance, the siblings of foolishness.
