The Boombox Project is the brainchild of New York photographer and filmmaker Lyle Owerko celebrating the absurdly gigantic yet portable icon of the 70s and 80s. Drawing on early hip-hop, punk and 80s street style, Owerko has designed for ic! berlin two sunglasses that are perfectly loud and bombastic: Boombox Noize and Boombox X.
Before the ipod came the walkman. But before the walkman came the boombox.
The boombox changed the way we access music. ic! berlin changed the way we think about glasses. Music is in the blood here at ic! berlin and these two sunglasses are the rebellious lovechildren of this totally radical collaboration.
Lyle Owerko is a photographer and filmmaker whose clients include musicians, major brands, corporations and human rights groups. His work has been featured in films, documentaries, and on the cover of the time magazine’s 9/11 issue.
So it was perfectly obvious that Lyle would also shoot and design the accompanying lookbook. He shot an amazing powerful series of photographs combining orginal boomboxes with the boombox-glasses.
